“Salomón Rondón met with the president @JorgeBrito and the vice-president @MatiasPatanian and signed the contract that makes him a player of our institution until December 2025. Good luck, @salorondo23!”, announced River Plate on its official Twitter account.

According to images from the TyC Sports channel, the Venezuelan striker went to River Camp on Monday, the sports venue that the ‘millionaires’ have in Ezeiza (Buenos Aires province) to participate in training and meet his new teammates.

The Vinotinto striker meets Demichelis, with whom he shared a dressing room at Málaga between 2010 and 2012 and who now leads the ‘millionaire’ bench after the most successful streak in the club’s history, that of Marcelo Gallardo, who added 14 titles in eight and a half years.

Rondón, a 33-year-old native of Caracas, signed his contract with River Plate after ending his career at English Everton, where he played 31 games and scored 3 goals since his arrival in August 2021.

This season he has only played 194 minutes in 8 games with the ‘Toffees’, the last one on October 15, in the 2-0 defeat against Tottenham.

Only two starting games

In fact, this course only started on the third day of the Premier League, in which Everton faced Nottingham Forest (1-1), and in the second round of the League Cup against the modest Fleetwood (0- 1 in favor of Everton).

Beyond this last experience in English football, Rondón has a remarkable career as a center forward, with more than 500 games played and 170 goals scored in ten professional teams.

After making his debut for Venezuelan Aragua, the striker from Caracas went through Spain (Las Palmas and Málaga), Russia (Rubin Kazán, Zenit and CSKA Moscow), England (West Bromwich Albion, Newcastle and Everton) and China (Dalian Pro).

Top scorer of the Venezuelan team

However, his most notable contribution was in the ranks of the Venezuelan national team: with 38 goals in 93 games, Rondón is the top scorer in the history of Vinotinto, ranking well above Juan Arango (23 goals) and Giancarlo Maldonado (22).

Rondón became River’s fourth reinforcement in this transfer window after the additions of Enzo Díaz and the returns of Nacho Fernández and Matías Kranevitter, currently injured.
