Senator Castro (PS) for frustrated dialogue between isapres and the Government: “They desperately asked for a table and then they threw the tablecloth”

The senator Juan Luis Castro (PS) discussed this Monday the departure of the Association of Isapres from the work table with the Ministry of Health (Minsal), an instance formed due to the crisis that insurers are going through. In this regard, the legislator commented that the isapres “threw the tablecloth.”

Let us remember that a ruling of the Supreme Court -of November 30, 2022- established that all health and complementary plans must apply the table of factors of the Superintendency of Health, which came into force in 2020.

“The isapres built their own scenario. They blame the government for their ills. They desperately requested a dialogue table. They sat at the table, went to two meetings and then threw the tablecloth, saying that the government did not listen to them,” stated Senator Castro -member of the Senate Health Commission- in conversation with The Counter in La Clave.

“The Government raised two things: one, an appeal for clarification, that the Supreme Court ruled in 24 hours, which says that the Superintendent of Health cannot intervene on the base price of the plans,” added the parliamentarian PS.

“The second thing that the Government has done is that it is going to present the country with a bill to strengthen Fonasa and have a new modality of care, in addition to hospital, in addition to free choice, it is going to incorporate a modality for purchasing insurance complementary to health plans”.

With this, Fonasa “will be able in this scenario, with a new law, to be in a position to receive, on equal terms, people who eventually leave an isapre or any citizen who wants to have private coverage as well. It turns out that with that information the isapres say ‘no, we’re leaving,'” he said.

Regarding the ruling of the Supreme Court, he said that it is “very categorical and in favor of the people, in favor of the people, because this world of the isapres tripped itself when the users of the system began to go to court, It started to go well for people when they raised the price of the plans. This comes about four, five years ago. It went on increasing.”

“95% of the cases that come before the Supreme Court of Chile are from isapres. 95%. That speaks of the level of indignation of the people,” he said.

Lists: the official discussion

Senator Castro also addressed the discussion within the ruling party for the electoral lists for the election of the Constitutional Council. The Central Committee of the PS decided yesterday to go on a single list, while the National Council of the PPD determined to go on a separate list with Democratic Socialism.

“All the parties say they support the government, and we say ‘if that’s the case, let’s prove it,'” said the parliamentarian.

“If we go on two lists (…) it will be the responsibility of those who have said over and over again that they privilege their identity, their sector, their legitimate way of seeing things, but not the unity of the entire conglomerate, and People know that I am referring to the PPD, the radicals and some others, and they are in that position that I hope they rectify in these days,” he added.

“If it is about putting the success of the changes we want in the Constitution above that identity, having a majority and not losing 3/5, which is the quorum to make the changes, I think the risk is too much, it is too much. “, he continued.

Along these lines, he maintained that “if we start from the base of self-dividing, of self-segmenting, in something that people are not going to understand very much, also with an electoral risk of defeat, please, it is like the prelude to the prophecy, that All of this is going to go wrong because it started badly”.
