The Minister of the Environment, Marina Silva, said today (30) that the federal government will use resources from the Amazon Fund in emergency actions to combat the humanitarian crisis experienced by Yanomami indigenous people in Roraima.
In a press conference at the ministry’s headquarters, in Brasília, Marina detailed that the resources will be used in security actions to expel clandestine miners from the region where the Yanomami live.
“These emergency actions are being dealt with at various levels, ranging from the issue of health, the treatment of the serious situation of hunger that is plaguing these communities, to the security part.”

Accompanied by the Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany, Svenja Schulze, Marina accused the Jair Bolsonaro government of crimes against the country and against humanity against indigenous communities.
“I have no doubt that it was a genocidal attitude towards the Brazilian indigenous populations and that the federal government is acting on an emergency basis in the face of a difficult situation, in which we have to recover policies, institutions, public equipment.”
Announcement
During the press conference, the German minister announced the release of around 200 million euros to be committed to environmental actions in Brazil within a period of 100 days.
The total contribution includes 35 million to the Amazon Fund and 31 million to support Amazonian states in implementing what the German government refers to as “ambitious actions” for greater protection of the forest.
