MADRID, Spain.- Three Cuban baseball players were included among the 100 best prospects of the Major Leagues (MLB, for its acronym in English) for 2023. They are Miguel Vargas (Dodgers, position 37), Andy Pagés (Dodgers, 81) and Oscar Colás (White Sox, 85).
“The majority of the top draftees are projected to play in the Major Leagues in 2023,” MLB said in publishing its rankingheaded by American Gunnar Henderson, infielder for the Orioles.
As well as explained that “each player was evaluated for who they have been, who they are, and who they might one day be in the Major Leagues based on their performance and tools, and were ranked 1-100 accordingly.”
In 2019, after leaving Cuba and at the age of 18, Andy Pagés from Pinar del Río led the rookie Pioneer League in extra-base hits (43) and ranked second in home runs (19), RBIs (55), total bases (153 ) and slugging.
Miguel Vargas, who made his professional debut last August with the Los Angeles Dodgers, is expected to play frequently in the MLB this year. While Oscar Colas, 24, could earn a spot in the White Sox outfield. Colas participated in the game of future stars this season. In his first MLB season, he hit 23 home runs and drove in 79 runs.
