Embassy of China and the Mayor of the National District Celebrate Chinese New Year

Santo Domingo – The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China and the Mayor’s Office of the National District celebrated the Chinese New Year or Spring Festival in the Pavilion of Nations in the Heroes Center, organized by the Jade Pro-Community Chinese Foundation.

The ceremony began with the notes of the national anthems of both countries, then the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in the Dominican Republic, Zhang Run and the Mayor Carolina Mejía baptized the lions, who performed the Dance of the lions and dragon, by young people from the Chinese community and young JADE Dragon.

The master of ceremony calls Mayor Carolina Mejía to say a few words, followed by Ambassador Zhang Run who gave his speech and words of thanks. Then they carry out an exchange of gifts from the ambassador to the mayoress. And the board of the Jade Pro-Community China Foundation presents a plaque of recognition to Ambassador Zhang Run.

The event was sponsored by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, the Mayor’s Office of the National District, the Association of Chinese Companies in the Dominican Republic; Garden Palace Restaurant, TSingtao beer, Grupo Rica, Choco WoW, Cometa Batteries, Ministry of Culture and Artisans, Dominican Federation of Gastronomy, Bon Ice Cream, Sanjo, Cabañas Primavera, Casa Rodríguez and Star Products.

After the formal act, the master of ceremony announced the route and rules of the 5K Race and calls the participants to the starting point. Finally, the prizes are awarded to the first three places, which were Alberto Batista, Francis Peña and Franklin Jiménez, respectively.

Attendees enjoy the dynamic fair presentation of products and services as well as sales of different items, including A&B.

In the afternoon, Miguel Feng, president of the Jade Pro-Chinese Community Foundation, welcomed those present, who were delighted with the artistic presentations of great Chinese Dominican singers and the attractions of video games, cosplayers, the dance of the Lions and of the Dragon.

During the artistic part, the folkloric ballet of the Ministry of Tourism was presented, directed by the descendant Josefina Chez, with classic merengue Caña Brava, Dominican Zapateo and a classic mangulina from Dominican folklore. The Taichí Ladies, made up of Jacqueline Melo, Amarilis Hernández and Violeta Joa, performed a Taichí and Fan dance.

The artist Maggie Rodríguez delighted us with her singing and performed a song in Mandarin and another in Spanish. In addition, the Sangre Mulata Folkloric Ballet was presented with 25 dancers who presented Los palos or atabales; Warrior dance and Pasa pie. The outstanding singer José Emilio Joa delighted us with his and Henya’s songs and El Laboratorio presented his music for rock lovers. The young artist Natalie Joa also sang bachata for lovers of this musical rhythm, “Tú amor lo quiero hoy” and the merengue “Baño de Luna”.

The teacher PeiPei, who is a Mandarin teacher at the INTEC Confucius Institute, played the Gu Zheng (guquin), a string instrument that has existed for 3,000 years, and its music has been a cultural heritage of humanity since 2008, surprising the public present with its melody. .

During the event there was a presentation of ethnic Chinese costumes that young people from the Jade Foundation exhibited professionally. The young Jade Dragon Tommy Lu, Cristian Feng, David Feng and Nio Perdomo gave a demonstration of the traditional Chinese martial art, Kung fu.

One of the attractions of the afternoon was the presentation of professional Cossplayers of the art of comics, who made a presentation for all age groups.

Those present also enjoyed raffles for two 43-inch televisions, 2 Hang Pao envelopes (red envelopes) with cash, worth 5,000 pesos; Bon Ice Cream bonus raffle, a dinner for 2 people, and products from sponsors.

To end the great event, the Naval Combo was presented, which delighted and made the attendees dance with their music, who enjoyed the cultural presentations of China all day. The event concluded with a great fireworks display.
