An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale shook the city of Khoy, West Azerbaijan province, in northwestern Iran, on Saturday night, leaving two dead and a hundred injured, local sources reported as provisional figures.
Around 70 towns were damaged by the earthquake, and the first assessments indicated that at least two people died and more than a hundred were injured, detailed the Iran International channel.
Meanwhile, emergency teams continue to estimate the damage up to a radius of 30 kilometers from the epicenter, the Europa Press news agency reported.
The earthquake was registered at 9:44 p.m. (3:44 p.m. Argentine time), at a depth of 7 kilometers, according to the Iranian Seismological Center in Tehran.
The tremor was so noticeable that it was also felt in many regions of West Azarbaijan province, including the provincial capital of Tabriz, and also in neighboring East Azarbaijan province, the Iranian state agency IRNA reported.
