President of the TSJ met in The Hague with Vice President of the ICC

The president of the Supreme justice court (TSJ), Gladys Gutiérrez Alvarado held a meeting with the first vice president of the International Criminal Court (ICC), magistrate Luz Ibáñez Carranza, in The Hague, Kingdom of the Netherlands.

At the meeting, the Venezuelan magistrate referred to the aggression to which Venezuela is subjected through unilateral coercive measures, stressing that despite their effects, the Judiciary continues with diligence and timely work, in compliance with the legal order.

Through a Press releasethe TSJ reported that, in the unprecedented and fruitful meetingGutiérrez highlighted the firm commitment of the National Judicial System to continue complying with the commitments derived from the Rome Statute.

It also confirmed the willingness to work together with the ICC, under the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Prosecutor’s Office of that Court, in November 2021.

For her part, the first vice president of the ICC recognized the work being carried out in the country, and made reference to the importance of synergy between national and international jurisdictions. She stressed that the judicial attention established by the Rome Statute depends on this work. She also emphasized the role of positive complementarity between both jurisdictions, facilitating the mutual exchange of experiences in terms of good practices, as advocated by International Criminal Law.

In addition, Ibáñez celebrated that it is a woman who is in charge of the Venezuelan Judiciary, highlighting the contribution of women to International Criminal Law. In response, Gutiérrez indicated that she would take her greetings in a special way to the judicial public servants of the country.
