Zulian teachers who work in various educational institutions in the Miranda municipality reaffirm their position to stay out of the classroom protesting and demanding their rights. These teachers cannot last another year earning a salary that is barely enough for their tickets.

A group of parents and representatives has expressed that they disagree with the teachers because they consider that they want to take away a study opportunity from the students and say that other alternatives must be found that allow them to reach a solution, however, the Teachers assure that there are many more representatives who agree with them and understand their situation.

Since January 9, the support of parents and representatives was noted in many of the educational institutions, since despite being the first day of classes, the students did not attend. “The parents of the students have always been our allies in the fight for salary and contractual improvements,” said teacher Blanca Vargas.

It is not the first time that teachers of this locality decide to take these measures. The representatives are an important part so that their rights can be fulfilled, most know the current situation and know that each of these teachers lacks quality of life.

“I agree that they stop attending schools and do not teach, most of them are receiving a miserable salary and it is not even enough to be able to travel to the institutions, there are also many illnesses and the teachers cannot buy a biosecurity team because they don’t have money to buy an antibacterial or mask. It is not fair for them or for our children, they are giving a half education and with many setbacks. Public schools do not have good facilities, “said Jairuma Fermín, representative.

Yenire Sandrea expressed that the teachers have been working for a long time with the same salary, this has led them to protest, in addition to the fact that due to the rise in the dollar their salaries are not enough at all. “But I don’t see the suspension of classes as fair. We come from a pandemic and there are many backward children, so they come from a vacation and call unemployment. Yes, it is okay to protest and defend their rights, but they must also continue in their positions and provide the education that our children need”, says Sandrea, adding that teachers should carry out a survey in the institutions, where they will have the support of all the representatives. but not on the streets.

A significant number of representatives in various schools emphasized that not teaching would only harm students, since without education they cannot advance. “They are seriously hurting children who want to learn,” they said.

«This issue is contradictory, but I do support teachers who fight for a fair salary, because they may have a lot of vocation, but they are also hungry. The monthly allowance is not enough for a week of food at home and other basic needs. I support the teachers, but I also don’t want my daughter to miss classes. I propose that all teachers put their resignation letters on the table, everyone, and that way we will see if this government does nothing and the Venezuelan government ends up waking up,” said Marbelis Garcés, mother of student Sara María Garcés.

Another group of parents agreed with the teachers’ protests and stressed that educators are the lowest paid professionals in Venezuela and deserve to do what they are doing to get a pronouncement from the national government.

«I am the mother and representative of a nine-year-old boy, I think that teachers have every right to protest and leave the classroom, to speak out and complain, we owe our education to them and they deserve our support. The representatives who do not agree is because they do not want to have their children study at home, “said María Caringi.

The students have also expressed themselves in favor of the teachers. They say that teachers give their all to provide them with a quality education. “I respect the position of each one, I agree that they are in the streets fighting, and I put myself in their shoes because my parents are also teachers and we are affected,” said the student Leannivette Huerta.

“If the teachers are out of the classroom, it does not mean that we are not doing anything, most of them are sending the tasks online so as not to be affected and move forward,” added María Petit, a high school student.

The teachers of the Miranda municipality assure that this fight will soon bear fruit, mainly because the government does not like the conflicts. “It was lived in August and it was found that by being united and fighting, we can achieve that our rights are fulfilled,” they said. They hope to continue protest activities in the coming days.
