The Banco Provincia de Buenos Aires disseminated tips to prevent its customers from being scammed when making card transactions, and also shared the steps to follow in case the data has been stolen.

In a statement released this Friday, it was specified that “with the growth of digital money and bankarization, new forms of fraud and scams developed” and it was highlighted that the most important ones occur in the “theft of credit and debit card data”.

Do not take photos of the front and back

From the Buenos Aires public bank it was indicated that “one of the simplest forms of fraud is to capture an image of the front and back of the plastic” and it was specified that it can be done with a cell phone.

“With a photo of the card, anyone can make fraudulent purchases”was warned when recommending “go personally to the box with the card, make the payment at the table or make the payment with a QR code through a DNI Account or from another digital wallet.”

Keep track of the card

Also, it was mentioned that another way to steal the data is “Passing the card through a terminal that copies your information to clone it and use it with another plastic”for which reason it was advised to “never lose sight of the card and control that the business passes it through a single device”.

Do not share the security code

On the other hand, it was stressed that “photos of the cards or plastic data or the security code should never be shared” and that Before non-face-to-face purchases, you must request “a payment link or carry out the operation through a website that has the necessary security measures”.

Check the veracity of the purchase websites and activate the antivirus

Also, Bapro highlighted the importance of “checking the veracity of the web pages and that the padlock icon appears in the address bar, indicating that it has security protections for the payment data to be entered”, and that the computers from which the transactions are made have “antivirus activated”.

shopping alert

At Banco, he also shared credit card tools and services that increase data protection, such as the “VISA or Mastercard Purchase Alert” that sends the customer an email notification every time they use their credit card.

“It is enabled from the pages of each company, that is, from Visa Home or from Master Consultas”it was specified and added that “once the person registers on the web they can manage various options of their credit card, one of them is to receive a notice in the mail each time a new consumption is made or a new automatic debit”.

What to do if fraudulent consumption is detected

Upon detection of fraudulent consumption, the person must contact the card issuing company (VISA, Mastercard), to move forward with the resolution of “any situation related to unauthorized transactions”.

Meanwhile, if the consumptions were with the debit card, it was indicated that “it is necessary to make the purchase unknown to the Bank to manage the return of the money debited from the account.”
