Congress rejects early elections for October 2023: who voted against and abstained?

The plenary of Congressthis morning, rejected the substitute text that proposed the advancement of elections to October 2023 with 45 votes in favour, 2 abstentions and 65 against the parliamentarians of the different benches of Legislative power, in the midst of protests that are registered throughout the country. Congressmen Francis Paredes from the Magisterial Bloc and José Elías from Podemos Peru were the ones who abstained during the process.

By people forcethe Fujimorista Tania Ramírez, who a few days ago was stoned by protesters at a local in Cajamarca, she was the only legislator from this party who voted against this measure. Likewise, the former Minister of Defense Roberto Chiabra (APP) decided not to show its support for this project.

The same happened with the benches of popular renewal Y Advance Countrywhich chose —as on previous occasions— vote en bloc against this early general election. On the other hand, Perú Democrático and Perú Bicentenario followed the same steps as the right-wing caucuses.

As for the parliamentarians of Free Peruwho hope to include the referendum for a constituent assembly to the next elections later, it was decided to reject this replacement text as a whole, since it did not benefit what they want for the country in the future.
