After 81 days of soccer recess in Argentina, Central Rosary Y Hurricane they reaped victories in their debut in the Argentine League after winning 1-0 at Argentine Juniorsand 2-4 against Defense and Justice.
After the consecration of the Albiceleste in the World Cup in Qatar, the 28-team championship began today with two games. The event will continue this weekend and end next Monday. In the first turn, Rosario Central, in the fourth stage of coach Miguel Ángel Russo, won 1-0 with a goal from Uruguayan Jhonatan Candia. Argentinos Juniors ended with ten players due to the expulsion of Leonardo Heredia.
Huracán beat Defensa y Justicia 2-4 away with goals from Santiago Hezze, Gabriel Gudiño, Nicolás Cordero and Juan Manuel García, while Nicolás Fernández and David Barbona scored for the locals.
The day will continue this Saturday with four matches: San Lorenzo will receive Arsenal de Sarandí, Estudiantes de La Plata to Tigre, Independiente will visit Talleres in Córdoba and River Plate will face Central Córdoba in Santiago del Estero.
On Sunday there will be five games. Racing Club will host Belgrano de Córdoba, Boca Juniors will welcome Atlético Tucumán, Platense will receive Newell’s Old Boys and Colón-Lanús will host Instituto-Sarmiento de Junín. Three more games will be played on Monday: Barracas Central-Godoy Cruz, Banfield-Unión and Vélez Sarsfield-Gimnasia.
The Professional Soccer League (LPF) and the Argentine Soccer Association (AFA) decided to repeat the model of the previous two years but alter the order: first the League and then the Cup. With 28 teams in a single round, the first part of the year will have as champion the one who adds the most points in a format that last year crowned Boca Juniors and in 2021 River Plate.
After the break, from August 18 to December 17, it will be the turn of the Cup with a scheme of two groups of 14 teams each. The best four of each zone will qualify for the quarterfinals and will play a direct elimination match in the stadium of the best classified. The semifinals and the final will also be a single match but on neutral ground.
The winners of the League and Cup will define the Champions Trophy at the end of the season, while during the year the Argentine Cup will be held in parallel, which brings together the club in six categories.
