The Vice Minister of Internal Commerce, Ramón Pérez Fermín, reported this Friday that the government of President Luis Abinaer is holding back the increase in fuels with the extraordinary subsidy, which for the week of January 28 to February 3 represents more than RD$760.3 million. .

With this week’s subsidy, the government closes the first month of 2023 with a debt of more than 2,528 million pesos.

“We reiterate once, that the government headed by President Luis Abinader has made efforts never before seen to maintain the stability of the local market, with the aim that citizens continue to have access to hydrocarbons with stable prices, beyond the strong praise in the international market”, said Vice Minister Pérez.

Pérez Fermín explained that the closing of WTI operations per barrel during this week oscillated between US$80.13 as the minimum value, and US$81.62 as the highest value quoted at closing.

He added that the effects of a prolonged and acute crisis have kept the markets uncertain, thus being reflected in the prices of refined products such as gasoline and diesel.

“It is important to highlight that the international price of diesel and gasoline have remained with a significant difference in relation to the price of crude oil since the beginning of the war, which has limited local prices from decreasing at the same rate as the crude oil that arrived to quote up to $130”, he said.

This week the Dominican Government assumes a sacrifice of close to RD$760.3 million by avoiding increases in regular diesel for RD$66.60, optimal diesel for RD$67.88, premium gasoline for RD$30.17, and regular gasoline for RD$28.34. Consequently, the prices of all fuels for domestic use will remain unchanged, despite the high cost that they currently exhibit in the international market.
