The Ministry of Health, the National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass) and the National Council of Municipal Health Secretaries (Conasems) approved the National Program to Reduce Queues for Elective Surgery, Complementary Exams and Specialized Consultations. The approval took place this Thursday (26), during the first ordinary meeting of the Tripartite Intermanagers Commission (CTI) of 2023.Ministry of Health approves plan to reduce the queue of surgeries in the SUS

According to the Ministry of Health, R$ 600 million are foreseen for the program, resources guaranteed in the Transition PEC. The first remittance of resources, around R$ 200 million, will be destined to elective surgeries.

“What we are debating with states and municipalities is a program to combat different problems and, from our experience, since the SUS has been working together for over 20 years, we are going to start with surgeries, because there are countless experiences in technology management in that regard. At the same time, we will discuss, in a tripartite way, how to build more structuring changes. For this, we need to know this queue of procedures and allow the user to interact, through transparency tools”, said the Secretary of Specialized Health Care (SAES), Helvécio Magalhães.

The secretary added that the goals are to create a national list of patients waiting for medical procedures, consolidate an information bank, regulate the provision of services with the support of tools, such as telehealth, and protocols for access to specialized care. The secretary mentioned that the North Region will have different treatment, due to the difficulty of retaining health professionals.

In the coming days, an ordinance will be published establishing the program. With the publication, the states must forward the work plans to the Ministry of Health for homologation and the transfer of money.
