Cuba registered in 2022 increases in the numbers of deaths and injuries due to traffic accidentsalso on the rise according to the annual report of the National Highway Commission quoted this Thursday on Cuban television.
From January to December, the authorities recorded 700 deaths and 7,547 injuries due to the 9,848 accidents reported on roads throughout the island.

For this reason, and according to the report by journalist Bernardo Espinosa, there were an average of 27 accidents per day.
The National Road Safety Commission (CNSV) points to non-attention to driving the vehicle, violation of the right of way and speeding as fundamental causes.
He also noted an increase in accidents with serious consequences (60). Among those who died from these causes, 68 were minors.
“Irresponsibility was present in all these cases” and factors among which Colonel Roberto Rodríguez, traffic chief in the National Revolutionary Police (PNR), highlights “excess fares and speed violations.”
From their own social networks, the transit authorities on the island point out that the number of hit-and-runs against cyclists has grown among these accident rate indicators.
In the same way, the nearly 300,000 motorcycles and motor cycles driven mostly by adolescents without a driver’s license stand out.
Havana, Holguín, Villa Clara and Santiago de Cuba concentrate the greatest increases in accidents, according to the authorities, who also highlight the poor state of roads such as the National Highway, the Central Highway and mountain roads.
The Vice Prime Minister of the Republic of Cuba Jorge Luis Tapia Fonseca was present at the last meeting of this Commission, as well as authorities from the Ministry of Transportation and the General Directorate of the PNR.
