Cuban opponents ask Biden not to agree with the island’s regime

The document, also addressed to the rulers of democratic countries, recalled that the Cuban dictatorship has strengthened its strategic relations with illiberal regimes such as the Russian and Chinese, becoming Putin’s main transatlantic ally during the invasion of Ukraine.

Likewise, it recalls that the Government, with its ineptitude and negligence, has plunged the Cuban people into a deep humanitarian crisis.

The signatories of the letter also point out that the opposition, civic organizations and Cuban citizens throughout the world have shown that they are united in the purpose of recovering FREEDOM, HOMELAND AND LIFE.

“Cubans are ready to lead a democratic transition, which is the only certain way out of the serious crisis that our people are experiencing,” the letter reaffirms.

As for the recent conversations of the Biden administration and the Cuban authorities, refer that “this type of dialogue without clear conditions, which equates the US rule of law with Castro’s criminal legality, can only weaken the national security of the United States and put the Cuban people in a situation of special vulnerability.” Cubans on the Island and in exile”.

Following these statements, the opponents asked the United States “not to make concessions to the regime without first having carried out and verified the unconditional release of all political prisoners; the end of repression; and respect for fundamental human rights”; as well as urged that “the necessary diplomatic, economic and legal measures be taken to address the threat that the Cuban regime represents, curb impunity for criminals in power in Cuba and support the Cuban people in their just effort for freedom and democracy”.
