The rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders and Justice Operators of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), Joel Hernández García, anticipated for April the preliminary report on the progress to the 36 recommendations of the Independent Group of International Experts (GIEI).
“What we have ahead of us now is to make an internal media report. In the Atlas as a whole, we have classified the 36 recommendations of the GIEI report into three groups: the first has to do with reparations, the second has to do with investigations, and the third has to do with structural measures,” he said,
He explained that the document will focus on the issues related to the reparation of victims and investigationswhile the evaluations referring to the justice reform will be contemplated in a second stage.
The rapporteur ruled out that, during his visit, which concluded this Thursday, could meet with former President Jeanine Áñez and the Governor of Santa CruzLuis Fernando Camacho, due to lack of time and the need for State consent.
“In the meetings they have asked us to visit both Mrs. Áñez and Mr. Camacho. We have answered our willingness to make the requested visits, as soon as we have the consent of the State we can do it”, he told Los Tiempos.
He stressed that “this visit is not possible, it is not scheduled, it does not give us the time and it is important first to have the consent of the State. Every international organization acts in the territory of a country with prior consent, which is why our presence here is explained”.
