Assembly approves bill that creates the National Day of the Panamanian Librarian

The Education, Culture and Sports Commission of the National Assembly decided to approve this Wednesday in the first debate Bill 918, which declares April 23 National Day of the Panamanian Librarian.

As stated in the explanatory statement of this legislative initiative, it seeks to highlight the functions of librarians, who become a bridge between the information needs and the means with which they can be satisfied in Libraries, because “they are an element essential to maintain and sustain this type of service that guarantees the exercise of a human right, such as access to information”.

to the aggrandizement of the nation, since it is a task that is no less relevant than any other in the country, such as organizing, disseminating and promoting bibliographic, newspaper, audiovisual and electronic resources.
