The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, asked the United States (USA) to help open a dialogue table to help Peruvian society achieve a democratic transition. The petition was made in the midst of a context of protests demanding the resignation of President Dina Boluarte, who reached the top post after the removal of Pedro Castillo at the end of 2022.

“The Organization of American States (OAS) calls this a democracy,” Petro criticized through his account on the social network Twitter, citing a tweet in which a military deployment is seen in the Puno area.

In the midst of the riots of the last few days, the National Association of Journalists (ANP) demanded the release of the journalists detained in protests. He denounced that regional communicators who were covering the police intervention on the campus of the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (Unmsm) were “arbitrarily” detained along with students and regional representatives.

The association counted at least three detained journalists who came from the Puno region. «The special envoy of Fama TV, Paty Condori Huanca; Radio Huancané reporter Percy Pampamallco Yancachajlla; and the reporter for Líder TV from Juliaca, César Huasaca Abarca; They were arbitrarily detained inside the house of studies along with more than a hundred people who were spending the night in said compound,” the ANP stated.

The ANP reported that, after learning of the arrest of the journalists, it went to the headquarters of the Criminal Investigation Division (Dirincri) and the Directorate against Terrorism (Dircote) “to verify the situation of the colleagues.” However, they indicated that the information was not given to them in a timely manner.

“After at least four hours of reporting the arrest, he was able to confirm their location, whose whereabouts were unknown until then,” said the Peruvian press association.
