Father Uriel Vallejos: "Bishop Álvarez opened a human rights office" in Matagalpa

The Father Uriel Vallejoscurrently in exile and former priest of Sébaco (Matagalpa), expressed in the Spanish Catholic press that the alleged “capture order” issued to the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) by the judicial authorities of the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo is nonexistent.

“You are not going to believe it, but it was a hoax from the government. They said they had asked the Interpol my capture, but a contact within the United Nations Organization (UN) confirmed to me that the Ortega regime had not officially issued any requirements against me,” said the priest, who is accused by Ortega along with the bishop of Matagalpa, Monsignor Rolando Alvarezof spreading false news (fake news) against Ortega and attacking the regime.

Vallejos offered an interview from underground to the Catholic weekly Alfa y Omega in Spain, where he also stated that it was the first he had given to a media outlet since he was formally accused by the Ortega regime.

“We are both accused of conspiracy to threaten national integrity and propagation of false news to the detriment of the State,” explained the priest.

Help victims of repression

Father Vallejos confessed that Monsignor Rolando Álvarez had opened a human rights office in his Diocese to assist the victims of political repression in the north of the country.

“At that meeting (of the clergy, ndr) he asked who freely wanted to participate and warned that whoever did so could end up in jail or exile,” said the priest, assuring that all the participants in said office are now in jail or in prison. exile.

It should be noted that Bishop Álvarez’s initiative to open a human rights office dates back to the time of the military dictatorships in Latin America.

The murdered Archbishop of San Salvador, Monsignor Óscar Arnulfo Romero, and the Chilean Cardinal Raúl Silva Henríquez opened human rights vicarages in their time in the face of violations committed by the Salvadoran military and the Augusto Pinochet dictatorship (1973-1990), respectively.

He left Costa Rica

Father Uriel Vallejos confessed that he left Costa Rica, the country where he had originally taken refuge and where the Church of that country had welcomed him due to the growing fear that groups supporting the Ortega regime are crossing the border to instigate violent acts against opponents.

Priest Uriel Vallejos, former parish priest of Sébaco currently in exile.

“Both countries are close and there are cases of people who have been kidnapped and returned to Nicaragua. There have even been murders, ”said the priest, who is now in another Latin American country that he did not want to identify, but in which he will stay for three years.

Fear of reprisals against priests

Father Uriel Vallejos expressed to the weekly Alfa y Omega his fear that the interview served as a pretext for the Ortega regime to mistreat the priests held in Nicaraguan jails.

“I cannot silence the truth, although I am afraid that because of this interview they may torture the priests who are in jail,” Vallejos concluded.
