A 45-year-old man died after being shot by individuals —unknown until now— who were traveling in a truck through the Las Huellas sector, Cura Quidico area, in the Tirúa commune, Arauco province, Biobío Region .
Faced with a new death in the so-called South Macrozone —which is still under a State of Emergency—, the local prosecutor’s office in Cañete instructed the Homicide Brigade (BH) of the regional Investigative Police (PDI) to clarify the circumstances in which The man identified as Edgardo Huenteo died.
As stated Radio Biobio, at about 2:30 p.m., personnel from the Quidico checkpoint were informed about a person who entered the Cesfam de Tirúa with multiple ammunition wounds. And it was recorded that he was attacked by two subjects while he was working as an auto mechanic.
Additionally, after learning of Huenteo’s death, a roadblock was reported between the communes of Cañete and Contulmo, also in the province of Arauco. Unknown persons would have left trees on the road and shots were reported in the sector. Public Order Control personnel are heading to the scene and traffic is interrupted.
The area has been under a State of Emergency Constitutional Exception since October 13, 2021. The death of Edgardo Huenteo is added to the attack that previously affected the Carabineros second sergeant, Mariano Riquelme, and three members of his family who were later injured. that the car in which they were traveling along the route that connects Cañete with Tirúa was intercepted by a group of hooded men who fired on the vehicle.
It is worth mentioning that the Government of President Sebastián Piñera confirmed that it will continue requesting to extend the State of Exception. Meanwhile, from the team of President-elect Gabriel Boric they indicated that they will not continue to extend the measure.
