This Wednesday, January 25, the company Walmart Nicaragua is developing the first job fair of the year 2023, at its branch in Carretera Sur, in front of the traffic lights of El Guanacaste in Managua. The transnational has 144 places available for Nicaraguan citizens who are looking for a formal job.
Applicants must present among their documentation the resume, police record, health certificate and academic support of the last year completed.
The fair has the purpose of increasing the employment table of the economically active population, for this purpose this company conducts an initial interview with the human resources personnel and after being selected they are placed in a specific area. This also becomes an opportunity for those who, since leaving their university degrees or technical courses, have not been able to find a place in a company.

“At Walmart we are happy to start 2023 with this great news: the opportunity to provide employment to Nicaraguan citizens at essential times like the present to continue contributing to the quality of life of the families where we operate,” said Martha.

Centeno also reported that Walmart will hold three more job fairs in Nicaragua during 2023. In addition, the company “will participate in calls made by universities, business chambers, among others,” he added.
Young human capital in Nicaraguan companies
Two young people consulted by the team Article 66under anonymity, agreed that the job vacancies offered by Walmart and other companies occur in a context where thousands of Nicaraguans have resigned from their jobs and have chosen to migrate to countries such as the United States, Costa Rica or Spain, due to the crisis economic crisis that has lasted in Nicaragua.
Young people also point out that the resignation of citizens from their positions is an “opportunity” for those who are unemployed or do not have a formal job.
One of the people consulted stated that “if there is a job fair it is because it means that there are job offers, it means that there is work, perhaps the issue of migration can not only be seen as something negative, there are those who leave their job and they go, in some way this adjusts the amount of employment versus the people that there are to work, let’s say that there is like a higher probability of employment for those who do not have it».
He added that the job offers “have perhaps been appropriate for some cases, on the issue of young people who have just finished their university studies because there is more dynamism in the issue of job rotation in companies, this allows people to leave and tickets, that is, there are people who are going to gain more experience, new challenges ».
The other young man highlighted that “in many companies there have been a lot of people resigning and several companies have run out of staff. From a personal point of view, I could tell you that right now I applied to work in a company and was hired, I have seen that in the company where I currently work, there are quite a few young and new staff.
In addition, he pointed out that these vacancies are “an opportunity, because many people have emigrated, but they have also hired new staff that includes young people.”
According to data released by the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Nicaraguan migration reached record levels in 2022, a total of 217,091 people were detained when they tried to enter the United States illegally.
