The president of the Permanent Assembly of Human Rights of Bolivia (APDHB), Amparo Carvajal, sent a letter to the departmental prosecutor of La Paz, Williams Alave, in which she expressed her concern about the situation of the former mayor of La Paz Luis Revilla and offered to as guarantor of former authority.
“We are concerned that Mr. Revilla has declared himself in hiding when the truth always has to be based on real documents and not accepting accusations without proof. I hope, as a human rights defender, I can be assisted in this process by offering myself as the former mayor’s guarantor and thus find the truth of the accusations against this former authority,” the letter reads.

Over the weekend, the former mayor of La Paz declared himself in hiding after his wife, Maricruz Ribera, was summoned to testify this Monday in the case of the alleged overpriced purchase of the PumaKatari buses.
Four days earlier, the La Paz Prosecutor’s Office ordered Revilla’s arrest on the grounds that he did not show up to testify; However, the former mayor previously reported that he was in poor health and requested that his summons be rescheduled.

In addition, Revilla emphasized that he attended twice to give his statement voluntarily, but the Prosecutor’s Office did not attend to the request due to the medical leave of the assigned prosecutor.
In his letter addressed to prosecutor Alave, Carvajal emphasizes that there is testimony from residents of the area where the PumaKatari buses were burned and indicates that they suffered intimidation from Luis Revilla’s accuser, the leader and former MAS candidate Jesús Vera.
“We are amazed and horrified that this man (Jesús Vera), with the complaints he has, can accuse the former mayor of La Paz,” said the president of the APDHB.
