The Ombudsman, Eduardo Leblanc, in an interview with Radio Panama, referred to the training that said institution will have for their participation as observers in the primaries of the different political parties and for the general elections of May 2024.
“We are going to participate as observers, the difference is that the Electoral Tribunal asked us to participate in the internal elections of the parties, we are going to make observers at the national level, we are in the process of evaluating the budget issue to pass that data on to the Tribunal,” indicated Leblanc
Regarding the preparation process for these elections, both primary and general, Leblanc said that volunteers are needed to cover these elections “The Electoral Tribunal will train those officials of the Ombudsman and volunteers, we are going to need more than 200 volunteers in the Ombudsman’s Office del Pueblo, we will make this process known at the time through social networks and media, we are going to receive people 18 years of age and older and who have that desire to make their homeland ”.
In a statement, the Ombudsman’s Office formalized the creation of the Electoral Observation Process Committee for the General Elections of May 5, 2024.
This Electoral Committee has the objective of coordinating, together with the Electoral Tribunal (TE), the administrative actions so that they allow, during a determined period, the collection, analysis and decision-making, to carry out the electoral observation process by the National Institution of Human Rights (INDH) for the general elections.
Among some of the functions that the Committee will have are: coordinate with the TE the work plan for electoral observation that includes the road map and material aimed at promoting the participation of women, prisoners and personnel assigned to the centers prisons, training in electoral matters and human rights, protocols for general electoral observation of special tables, access and management guide for people with disabilities, among others.
