Tarija is the department of the country most affected by the rains which caused streams and rivers to overflow, reported the Deputy Minister of Civil Defense, Juan Carlos Calvimontes.
The authority together with the Minister of the Environment and Water, Juan Santos Cruz, carried out helicopter overflights and visited some communities to verify the natural disasters in the municipalities of El Puente, Uriondo and Yunchará.
“Of five departments that are affected by the rains, Tarija is the most affected“, reaffirmed Calvimontes, adding that humanitarian aid is distributed to the affected families.
According to the deputy minister, the overflowing of rivers caused flooding in vineyards and plantations of fruit trees, such as quinces, as well as land for the production of vegetables.
Flood of the Guadalquivir river
The Director of Risk Management of the Government of Tarija, Reiner Figueroa confirmed that this department is the most affected nationwide by the rains that do not stop, such as those recorded last night and at dawn this Monday.
“The first reports we have is that the road to Entre Ríos was cut off again by landslides and again there was flooding of the San Juan del Oro River,” he mentioned.
The increase in the flow of the rivers Camacho, Guadalquivir, Bermejo and Pilcomayo, which activated the orange alert due to possible overflows in neighboring towns.
