Within the framework of the VII Summit of Presidents of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC)the organization Race and Equality (Race & Equality, by its name in English) announced that it has installed posters in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina, in which it demands the freedom of the political prisoners that the regimes of Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua maintain in total isolation.

Through a releasethe international organization detailed this Monday, that it has installed “200 double-sided vertical posters that are at eye level for passers-by (in Buenos Aires), with a message demanding that the more than a thousand people deprived of liberty for reasons politicians in Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela are released”.

“These were placed at strategic points in the city of Buenos Aires, including the vicinity of the Sheraton Buenos Aires Hotel & Convention Centerwhere the Summit will be held,” he said.

Likewise, the entity assured that it carries out this “series of denunciation actions” in Argentina, the host country of the VII Celac Summit, so that the heads of state that will participate in the forum “keep in mind that they must continue to demand the release of these people”.

Race and Equality also highlighted that they installed two fences during a period of three days (from January 20 to 22), in front of the Quinta Presidencial de Olivos, the Official residence of Argentine President Alberto Fernándezwho formally invited the dictators of Daniel Ortega, Nicolás Maduro and Miguel Díaz-Canel to participate in the Summit.

One of the two cartels located in the vicinity of the presidential residence was demanding the release of the more than 600 political prisoners in Cuba and the other for the more than 235 people arbitrarily detained by Ortega in Nicaragua.

In addition, the organization denounced that the regimes of Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua maintain “the largest number of people deprived of liberty for political reasons in all of America. In these three countries, more than 1,500 people have been or are in the process of being subjected to unfair trials, and physical and psychological torture.”

“Since Race and Equality and allied organizations, we continue to carry out litigation and advocacy actions before the international bodies of the Inter-American System and the Universal System of Human Rights, which facilitate the path to freedom for all people unjustly deprived of their liberty in Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela” he added.

They reject possible visit of the dictators

The VII Summit of the Celac Heads of State is scheduled to be held this Tuesday, January 24, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. So far, the leaders Daniel Ortega and Nicolás Maduro have confirmed that they will not attend and they will send their respective foreign ministers to represent them in the forum.

Days before the Summit, the Argentine Forum for Democracy in the Region (FADER) reportedly rejected the invitation made by the President of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, to the dictators of Nicaragua, Cuba and Venezuela.

The organization filed a complaint against the three dictators for human rights violations before the courts of their country. The complaint brief was presented before the federal criminal jurisdiction of Comodoro Py, and it exposes the violations of international law for which Nicolás Maduro, Daniel Ortega and Miguel Díaz-Canel could be criminally responsible.

South American politicians consider Maduro, Díaz-Canel and Ortega to be dictators who “persecute, harass and kill” their peoples. They also demanded that President Alberto Fernández “suspend this”, in reference to the invitation sent to the three Latin American dictators.

In addition, the Argentine deputies that make up the opposition repudiated the possible visit of the dictators of Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua to that country to participate in the Celac Summit. The deputy of the Avanza Libertad party, José Luis Espert, presented before the Chamber of Deputies of Argentina a project where They request that Maduro, Ortega and Díaz-Canel be declared “personas non grata”.

Celac is an intergovernmental mechanism for dialogue and political agreement that was created in 2010 and is made up of the 33 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, of which Argentina is the host because it exercises the pro tempore presidency.
