Antonio Gershenson: The usual distractors

The seventh National Search Brigade begins in Morelos

P

for no one The evidence that the trial of a white-collar criminal is commanding national attention would be unusual. Nor is it unbelievable that the self-styled super-cop fooled the US super-cops, who trusted the high-level rogue-official in the government of former President Felipe Calderón Hinojosa.

What motivated previous governments to commit crimes, to deceive and to simulate, was due to the ease with which they have been able to steal with full hands from political posts in high places or from the circle of accomplices in low spheres. But, in addition to the complicity of people close to strategic positions of power, there is the high level of disinformation in society.

Why do people ignore the affairs of the political class and its links and illegal actions with the parties and their leaders, negotiating even up to their principles? Why don’t we find out about the advances of science in favor of health or the intrinsic damage of medical treatments? Maybe because they are a business. It is widely known that pharmaceutical companies impose treatments, not because of the need of the population, but because of the therapeutic industry. And, next question, why don’t we know about the dark trials and rigged sentences handed down by the judiciary?

It has already been pointed out on several occasions in the morning conference of President López Obrador that deficient information or, outright, hidden on purpose, is because it has been thought traditionally that politics is only for politicians… and, we can add that the thought has become widespread that science is only understood by scientists. And, as for jurisprudence (science of law), only judges, magistrates and courts should understand what is justice and what is not. Therefore, every sentence must be accepted. So blindly.

In such a way, that the great distractors of daily life have done their job: divert the attention of society from the truly important issues. But, not only that, but also that misinformation mutilates, in some way, people’s ability to analyze, under the pretext that the laws are not understood by the people.

We are living one of the classic episodes of the execution of a distractor. The trial of the citizen-criminal Gerardo García Luna is the main issue in the press these days; as the journalist Jorge Rocha said in the program The Morning 360, the trial of the super cop is about to become a pay per event.

In the same way, scientific advances are concealed by business consortiums and research institutes, even by universities.

For example, on nuclear fusion, a study that takes years, only a few countries have been able to make progress on it. It does not mean that in Mexico the techniques to find how to improve the production of clean energy are not known. We are saying that for the findings of foreign science the diffusion is wider than for the national one.

For example, hardly anyone knows that the National Institute for Nuclear Research exists, especially those who know when it was formed, who works there, and what they do research.

If we took as an ethical principle to make the population aware, from the first levels of formal education, what science is, what is achieved with it and the benefit that can be obtained to keep living beings and the planet healthy, it would be much more understandable why we should take care of the environment.

We would clearly understand what nuclear energy is, what temporary environmental contaminants are, those generated by human beings, and how to face natural or provoked phenomena, without fearing what the tabloid press says. And, above all, the ability to analyze the human situation would be strengthened in the face of eventualities, both of an environmental nature and of actions caused by human beings.

In recent information, it is claimed that the future of clean energy could change the defense system of the United States. And, the question is, why is research only thinking of that country?

In principle, it is common knowledge in world energy science that nuclear fusion, although these two words sound strange, is a possibility to obtain cleaner energy. And, by the way, this is not only studied in the United States.

Most importantly, general knowledge should focus on nuclear waste abatement. This is an unfinished business. Hence the distrust of the population that is unaware of the process and application of this type of energy based on a mineral called uranium.

And, although the US government gives priority to the fact that this type of nuclear fusion has the characteristic of obtaining net energy gains, it would be important to find the formula to save toxic waste in the most efficient way possible, as we have mentioned in other articles. .

This means that we have the possibility of producing less expensive and cleaner energy, benefiting the natural environment to a greater degree with a lower cost for geological wear.

Therefore, we believe that it would be beneficial if knowledge about the nuclear industry could be in the public domain.
