Machu Picchu: they confirm the closure of the Inca Trail from this February 1

In application of the Sustainable Tourism Use Regulations, as of Tuesday, February 1, the entrance of tourists to the Inca Trail Network of Machu Picchu will be closed, due to the rainy season and with the aim of facilitating the maintenance and conservation work that is carried out. They will be executed throughout the month of closure, according to the head of the National Archaeological Park of Machu Picchu, José Bastante.

The official specified that specialized personnel from the cultural institution will carry out work on the platform of the pedestrian walkway, wooden bridges, rainwater drainage channels, vegetation cutting, disinfection of handrails, conservation of camping areas and maintenance of the hygienic services of the entire Inka Trail network.

The works will be carried out along the Inca Trail, from Piscacucho to Intipunku, passing through the Wayllabamba, Pacaymayo Alto, and Wiñaywayna camps”

“Tour operators already know this work that is carried out every year in February. and they are recommended to adopt the pertinent measures to avoid mishaps with visitors” stressed the head of the National Archaeological Park of Machu Picchu.
