The owner of the Ministry of Interior, Vincent Romero, stated that the National Police of Peru (PNP) “respected human rights” of the demonstrators who were in the facilities of the National University of San Marcos (UNMSM)who were intervened the last Saturday. In addition, the Minister of State stressed that everything “has been in accordance with the law.”
“There have not been any injuries, everything has been in accordance with the law and respecting human rights. One of the main concerns of the president Dina Boluarte and the premier Alberto Otárola it is its unrestricted compliance,” he said in dialogue with Canal N.
Likewise, he explained that the entrance of the Police to the house of studies was due to the fact that on January 20, the commissioner of Neighborhood Unit No. 3 received a complaint from the security office of the UNMSM, “indicating that on January 20 and 21, Approximately 300 people moved to the doors and broke into the rooms of security personnel”.
“The representative of the university appears and requests the general, head of the Police Region of Lima, the intervention and release of the forces of the illegally taken over university. This Saturday, andhe personnel from the Lima region intervene and enter the university using a multipurpose vehicle to guarantee the safety of police personnel and those intervened”, he said.
In relation to those intervened, the minister Romero indicated that they were duly identified and that the resident students were separated from the Saint Mark with the protesters.
“In consultation with the welfare administrator of the university itself, the resident students of that house of studies were separated, who returned to their facilities. Regarding the intervened, they were transferred to the specialized directorates of the Dircorte, Dirandro and Dirincri to continue with the legal proceedings of his technical defense,” he explained.
PNP used violence to detain protesters in San Marcos
last saturday, PNP troops demolished the doors and structure of the UNMSM using a war tank. In addition, they launched tear gas bombs with the purpose of taking control of the house of studies and thus dispersing the students and protesters who had been staying on campus for days. That is where they were intervened without the presence of a prosecutor.
This intervention occurred after Jeri Ramón Ruffner, Chancellor of San Marcos Universitydenounced that a group of people who were in the house of studies attacked the security personnel in order to steal electronic equipment and vests, last Friday.
