In 2022, the local governments of the South of the country received a budget of S/15,238 million to public investmentHowever, they only executed 65% of said amount, that is, they have yet to disburse more than S/5,000 million, revealed ComexPerú.
The lowest percentage of investment was observed in Ica, which only spent 53.6% of what was assigned, followed by Arequipa with 54.1%. They are followed by Moquegua (63.5%), Madre de Dios (63.9%) and Ayacucho (65.1%).
“Then there are Junín (68.1%) and Puno (69%). Finally, there are Cusco (71.5%), Tacna (72.7%) and Apurímac (73.4%), who have the highest execution percentages, but are not even close to 80%,” the union specified.
On the other hand, he expressed that the regional governments of the South were assigned S/5,682 million last year, but of that total they only executed 76%.
In this regard, ComexPerú considered that there is a low technical-operational capacity of officials to carry out projects, as well as a disarticulation between the different levels of government.
This situation, he specified, translates into problems for the execution of works, delays and cost overruns, which means that “the long-awaited highway, school, or hospital are not in optimal conditions or, worse still, do not exist.”
“In these troubled times, it is necessary to recognize that there are unattended demands in the population due to a State that has remained absent. This is where the effort must be focused, so as to guarantee access to basic services that, in the long run, will promote the development of our country. The time is now,” the union said.
