Alberto Undurraga rules out a single list with Chile Vamos and points to an alliance with parties of the former Concertación

Discarding the viability of an alliance with Chile Vamos for the election of constitutional councillors, the president of the Christian Democracy (DC), deputy Alberto Undurraga, referred to the definition process his party is facing to choose its cards to compete for a space in the Constitutional Council, the body in charge of drafting a new Magna Carta proposal, which will be held in plebiscite at the end of the year.

In the context of the Falangist National Meeting, held today Saturday, the conglomerate is studying the option of creating a single list with its partners from the past, an alternative that would be sponsored by the PPD and the Radical Party (PR), both being official parties. This, after in recent days the possibility of Democratic Socialism and Approved Dignity facing the election of councilors together has begun to be ruled out, despite the intention of the latter conglomerate to appeal for unity in the government alliance.

In this regard, according to the helmsman of the phalanx, “we have seen in the ruling party, the statements and convictions of the PPD, like the PR, to go on a different list with us. That is the scenario in which we are working. We believe that It is the best for Chile, because there are clear messages for different electorates and we represent that enormous number of Chileans who want social transformations but with stability”.

For his part, and when asked about the possibility of consolidating a list with Chile Vamos -an initiative that emerged within Renovación Nacional-, Undurraga was categorical in ruling it out. “We do not have nor have we had any conversations with the right-wing parties and there is no alliance with the right-wing parties in any scenario”, assured the parliamentarian, in statements collected by Third.

In this sense, and in the middle of his speech before the militants, the president of the DC reinforced the idea of joining forces with the parties of the extinct Concertación, raising the need to rebuild relations with said communities. “It seems essential to us that the electoral objectives are subordinated to the greater political objective of establishing a long-term stable alliance of the center-left, as a condition of forming an alternative power against the poles of the right and the radical left”, raised the Falangist deputy.

It should be remembered that the election of the 50 councilors in charge of drafting the new Constitution proposal will take place on May 7th. Already this Friday, Undurraga warned that his party’s relationship with the Government – which he defines as “collaboration with autonomy” – would be affected if the ruling party manages to dispel their differences and promotes a single list of Democratic Socialism with I Approve Dignity, “because what he pushes with that is to isolate ourselves or to renounce our electorate. Neither of these two alternatives are good for the DC”, he pointed out.
