The deputies of National Renewal (RN) defined and announced the experts and arbitrators that will represent them in the new constituent process that Chile will experience. The former minister of Sebastián Piñera, Juan José Ossa, and the lawyer Catalina Salem were chosen as experts, while Marisol Peña and Víctor Avilés were selected as arbitrators.
It should be noted that the voting took place on Wednesday and Thursday, where 22 parliamentarians voted and where 16 prominent professionals and academics from the area participated.
Andrés Longton, head of the RN bench, assured that it was “a serious process, in which all the interested parties were able to present their ideas and what they expect from a new constitutional text.” He also added that it was “without a kitchen, with a lot of transparency, we chose a mixture where, in addition to curriculum, there is youth, expertise and the ability to dialogue to reach agreements in favor of the country.”
For her part, Deputy Sofía Cid, deputy head of the bench, added that “the most important thing is to highlight that the selection was carried out in a democratic and participatory manner, where all parliamentarians were part of the process, being able to express their opinions and present candidates.”

- Juan José Ossa Santa Cruz: Lawyer from the Pontificia Universidad Católica and Master in Law from The London School of Economics and Political Science; former Minister Secretary General of the Presidency in the second government of Sebastián Piñera. Previously, he was Undersecretary of Justice and Undersecretary General of the Presidency. Between November 2012 and March 2014, he was national director of the National Consumer Service (Sernac).
- Catalina Salem: Lawyer from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Master of Laws LLM mentioning Constitutional Law, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Candidate for the degree of Doctor of Law and Master of Legal Science. She is a professor and researcher at the Center for Constitutional Justice of the Law School of the Universidad del Desarrollo.
- Marisol Peña: Lawyer and law professor. She is director of the Center for Constitutional Justice of the Law School of the Universidad del Desarrollo. She was minister of the Constitutional Court between 2006 and 2018, and president of that entity between 2013 and 2014. In addition, she is a professor at the Faculty of Law of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. She has a master’s degree in International Studies from the University of Chile in 2002.
- Víctor Manuel Avilés: Lawyer from the University of Chile, Master of Laws with a mention in Tax Law from the University of Chile; he is a professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Chile.
