Mirabal Sisters.- The man accused of attacking Yanelis Arias López with “devil’s acid” and causing the death of Yanelis Arias López, on August 20, 2021, in the Tenares municipality, was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
In addition to the aforementioned sentence, the Collegiate Court of this demarcation imposed on Agustín de Jesús Pimentel Luna (Caché), the payment of compensation of seven million pesos in favor of the victim’s relatives, as well as the payment of legal costs. of process.

De Jesús Pimentel must serve his sentence at the La Isleta Correction and Rehabilitation Center in Moca, Espaillat province, where he has been held since the coercive measure was imposed on him.
Judges Manuel Antonio Carela, Biannelys Martínez Calvo and Felicia Núñez de Jesús, from this judicial district, accepted the requests of the Public Ministry to hand down the maximum sentence to Pimentel Luna, prosecuted for spraying the corrosive substance on Arias López.
“In the land of butterflies, the cradle of heroines, any criminal action that is detrimental to women is rejected,” said the head prosecutor for Hermanas Mirabal, Zoila Rodríguez Ynfante, adding that with this decision justice is done in a fact of barbarism that shocked the Hermanas Mirabal province and the entire Dominican society.

Pimentel Luna was prosecuted for committing acts of torture and barbarism with premeditation and stalking, acts foreseen and sanctioned in articles 303, 303 numeral 4, ordinal 10, of the Dominican Penal Code, modified by Law 24-97.

It is recalled that the death of Yanelis Arias López occurred on September 3 of last year, as a result of septic shock generated by infections in the burns on her body, after spending 14 days receiving medical attention in the Burn Unit of the Hospital Doctor Ney Arias Lora, in Santo Domingo.
