USA: Unsolved immigration cases exceed two million

Los Angeles, USA (EFE).- The backlog of cases awaiting a decision in the immigration courts of USA it surpassed 2 million by the end of 2022, according to an analysis by a think tank at Syracuse University.

The most recent data from the immigration courts show that as of December 31, the number of cases pending reached 2,056,328, which marks a historical record, detailed the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC).

This independent center of the New York university indicated this week that the accumulation of asylum cases also set a record, exceeding 800,000.

Florida immigration courts have the most cases in the country with 326,895. Immigration judges in Miami had 198,717 cases pending as of December 31.

Texas follows with 304,634 cases, of which only in the city of Dallas there are 105,193 immigrants awaiting an immigration decision.

California ranks third with 230,493. More than 40% are in San Francisco (100,072 cases), while Los Angeles courts have less than 20% with 43,866 cases.

The report also found that there has been a significant drop in the number of Venezuelan asylum seekers, particularly after the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) included these immigrants among those affected by Title 42 immediate removal of migrants in October. at the border
