The Collegiate Court of the Hermanas Mirabal province sentenced 30 years in prison the man found guilty of attacking with “devil acid” and cause the death of Yanelis Arias López, on August 20, 2021, in the Tenares municipality.
Judges Manuel Antonio Carela, Biannelys Martínez Calvo and Felicia Núñez de Jesús accepted the requests of the Public Ministry to issue the maximum penalty against Agustín de Jesús Pimentel Luna (Caché), prosecuted for spraying the corrosive substance on Arias López.
In addition, they imposed the payment of compensation of seven million pesos in favor of the victim’s next of kin, as well as the payment of the judicial costs of the process.
De Jesús Pimentel must comply with the maximum penalty at the La Isleta Correction and Rehabilitation Center in Moca, Espaillat province, where he has been confined since the coercive measure was imposed.
During the trial, the prosecution body demonstrated with different evidence the criminal responsibility of the defendant, evidence accepted and validated by the judges to dictate the verdict.
The team of prosecutors was made up of Claudia Cecilia Román and Yesiely Fabré Fernández, coordinator of the Comprehensive Care Unit for Gender Violence, Family Violence and Sexual Crimes in this demarcation, as well as Elvira Rodríguez and Eduardo Velázquez, who joined the process on behalf of the Litigation Unit of the General Directorate of Persecution of the Public Ministry.
Pimentel Luna was prosecuted for committing acts of torture and barbarism with premeditation and stalking, acts foreseen and sanctioned in articles 303, 303 numeral 4, ordinal 10, of the Dominican Penal Code, modified by Law 24-97.
