Some 3,000 teachers will access teaching training at the Ceibal Summer School

The 5th edition of the Ceibal Summer School, aimed at teachers and Teacher Training students from all over the country, will take place between February 6 and 10, 2023, with more than one hundred face-to-face and virtual activities. The objective is to promote teacher professional development, educational planning and innovation. Registration is open until January 27 through the institutional website.

The head of Ceibal’s Training Department, Martina Bailón, explained that the 5th edition of the Summer School will include more than a hundred activities, including workshops, talks and conferences on various topics, which seek to add to the professional development of teachers, educational planning and innovation.

He pointed out that many will be carried out in person on the premises of the Technological Laboratory of Uruguay (LATU) and others in virtual format, through the Zoom platform and streaming on YouTube, due to high demand. “Virtuality gives us the possibility of expanding the scope and, at the same time, that teachers can continue accessing the content once the instance is finished,” he said.

Bailón said that topics such as computational thinking, robotics, digital citizenship and pedagogy challenges in the digital context will be addressed. Also others related to emotional, inclusive education, language and teaching skills. All of them were designed based on the current needs and challenges of teachers. This year will focus on professional development, with learning platforms, tools, activities and other resources, she said.

He specified that, on this occasion, for the first time, there will be conferences by international experts from Argentina and Costa Rica. Studies and publications carried out by Ceibal and organizations such as the National Institute for Educational Evaluation (Ineed), the Agency for Electronic Government and the Information and Knowledge Society (Agesic) and various universities will also be presented.

The purpose of the Summer School is for each teacher to access concrete ideas and proposals to implement throughout the year and exchange and build networks with other participants linked to education, Bailón said.
