ANEP will allocate 2,800 million pesos to build and maintain educational centers

ANEP will allocate 2,800 million pesos to build and maintain educational centers

The general plan for the building infrastructure of schools, high schools and UTU in the country has 2,800 million pesos for new infrastructure, replacement and maintenance of premises, reported the head of ANEP, Robert Silva. He added that in 2023 more than 300 works will be carried out, such as the construction of high schools No. 47, in La Teja; No. 9, in Paysandú; No. 6, in Tacuarembó, and No. 3, in Solymar, and the maintenance of the one in Colonia.

“The Codicen approved an important investment in maintenance of educational centers, in response to a problem that we detected when we reached the administration in this period and a claim from the educational community,” said the president of the Central Board of Directors (Codicen) of the Administration National Public Education Agency (ANEP), Robert Silva, in dialogue with Presidential Communication.

The hierarch specified that more than 380 works were carried out in 2021 and noted that the purpose of the majority was to recover sanitary spaces linked to the covid-19 epidemic. In addition, in 2022 more than 390 jobs were carried out and in 2023 close to 300 will be carried out in educational centers throughout the national territory.

He pointed out that 90 million pesos will be allocated to works claimed by the community since 2014, which had not been attended to, and added that, through the 0800 ANEP (08002367) system, questions can be made about the state of educational centers.

He also stressed that the money will be allocated to waterproofing work in premises because humidity and breakdowns represent a pressing problem. For this reason, an additional 300 million pesos will be allocated to the General Educational Building Infrastructure Plan that will be applied in schools, high schools and UTUs throughout the country.

Silva exemplified the works in the departmental high school in Colonia, where maintenance tasks had not been carried out for many years, which caused a deterioration in the ironing, which affects the lighting and hygienic services, with leaks into classrooms . He also mentioned works that will be carried out in rural schools.

In relation to the infrastructure, he indicated that the high school No. 47, of La Teja, in Montevideo, with an investment of more than 100 million pesos, will be transformed into a new educational center, which includes part of the existing one and incorporates a space adjacent. Secondary schools No. 9, in Paysandú; 6, from Tacuarembó, and 3, from Solymar will have their new headquarters.

The head of ANEP stressed that the works will be carried out with its own budget, through financing from General Revenue, and, in other cases, with loans granted by the Inter-American Development Bank. He explained that the total amount of annual investment is 2,800 million pesos for new infrastructure, substitution and maintenance of educational establishments. In addition, he remarked that another financing modality, outside of the 2,800 million, is public-private participation, from which there will be 15 new schools that will be inaugurated in 2023.
