The Minister of Women, Family and Human Rights, Damares Alves, is the guest of journalist Marina Machado on the program No Censorship this Monday (31). She will talk about perspectives on social actions developed by the federal government and investments in protecting and guaranteeing the rights of vulnerable populations.
Damares will also take stock of the ministry’s activities in the face of the covid-19 pandemic, which coordinated the distribution of food baskets to indigenous and quilombola families.
Damares was born in Paraná in 1964, but has lived in the Northeast – Bahia and Alagoas – since he was six years old. She is an educator and a lawyer. Defender of human rights, in the 80’s she was one of the founders of the State Committee of the National Movement of Girls and Boys of Sergipe, whose social function is the protection of street children. At that time, she also acted as an advocate for the rights of women fishermen and rural workers.
For more than 20 years in the National Congress, it is considered a reference in the fight against pedophilia and protection of childhood and for the rights of children with disabilities and victims of indigenous infanticide. Since 2019, she has headed the Ministry of Women, Family and Human Rights.
