The painter, poet and designer matancero Rolando Estévez Jordán, one of the founders of Ediciones Vigia and director of the cultural project El Fortín, died this Tuesday at the age of 69 in Matanzas, according to local media and institutions.
“It is with deep pain that we learned the news of the death of Rolando Estévez Jordán, a Cuban painter, poet and designer born in Matanzas,” he noted on his Facebook profile, Ediciones Vigía.
“His work was essential to give Ediciones Vigía the visuality and prestige that characterize it internationally,” argues the note, which shows his work at the head of the artisan publishing house El Fortín, of which he was also a founder.
Estévez Jordán had struggled in recent months against “a painful disease” according to the Cuban News Agency (acn).
In 2010 he received the National Book Design Award for his life’s work. He was also awarded the Distinction for National Culture.

Efrahim Pérez, director of the Provincial Center for Books and Literature in Matanzas, described Estévez as “a great poet, cultivator of the people, promoter of love and respect for Cuban and universal art and culture, founder of enduring works in memories and in the streets,” he points out. acne.
