The Episcopal Conference of Bolivia (CEB) pronounced this Wednesday before the new curriculum defined by the Ministry of Education that will be in force for the 2023 administration.

Monsignor Fernando Bascopé, presiding bishop of the Education area of the CEB, I affirm that the Catholic Church views with deep concern that the curricular proposal seriously compromises the few achievements made in the last two school administrations.

“We think that this new curriculum does not prioritize educational quality and was defined unilaterally by not having the contribution of the institutions who work in education,” Bascopé said while reading the statement.

He gave as an example the last protests carried carried out by the Federation of Urban Teachers in Cochabamba and parents. The day of this Wednesday also developed a noisy march on the part of the urban teachers in La Paz, who took to the streets of the center.

On Wednesday morning, the Vice Minister of Regular Education, Bartolomé Puma, defended the curricular update ensuring that they have worked with the teachers, with contributions from the university and the Student Confederation.

“It was done in a participatory manner, at the end of the 2022 administration we trained more than 50,000 teachers and we continue in that process,” argued Puma.

Bascopé mentioned that the institutions that are part of the educational system, such as governorships and municipalities, responsibility is not clear that they must assume with said curriculum, such as the provision of technical and school materials, even less in the construction of the necessary infrastructure improvement for the curricular development.

On the mesh, the Episcopal Conference pointed to the contents of comprehensive sexual educationconsiders that they affect fundamental rights which, when treated without an “adequate family, affective and emotional context, only produce confusion and disorientation”.

“We encourage parents, teachers and students to have a critical sense based on principles and values, not on ideological impositions outside the field of scientific and human education. Education must be subordinated to the truth and not to ideological manipulation”, asserted Monsignor Bascopé.

This day also circulated a document in which the Ministry of Education incorporates for this 2023 the social conflicts of 2019, which he describes as a “constitutional rupture”.

The constitutional breach of 2019” It appears as content of the sixth year of secondary school, that is, for promotions, according to the text Plans And Programs Secondary Community Productive Education 2023, published by the Ministry of Education.

In this regard, the deputy for Creemos, Laura Rojas, regretted that the Government is introducing the “fable of the coup” in the contents of the curriculum.

He rated as a “aberration” and “shameful” that from the Ministry of Education they are trying to “indoctrinate” the new students through lies.

“As national legislators, we issued a request for a report in December 2022, demanding that the minister respond to us with the changes and the mesh to be implemented; however, with tricks they try to impose this narrative,” said the parliamentarian.
