The metalworking businessmen in Espinar (Cusco) expressed their concern regarding the protests and acts of violence that are taking place in this part of the country.
“We stand in solidarity with the peaceful demonstrations carried out by the population, in relation to the social and political situation that our country is going through. However, we do not support acts of violence that put life and private property at risk,” they said.
In the same way, they questioned the burning of the municipality, of a company, of the transport units and “the constant threat to businessmen of not providing logistical support to the protesters, a situation that has been negatively affecting the local economy and the economic income of families and workers”.
In this sense, they assured that “a political problem does not have to destabilize the economy of the province of Espinar”, for which they asked that there be no more coercion, nor infiltrators. “Let us work calmly,” they stressed.
“Local entrepreneurs in the province call on the national, regional and local government to build bridges for dialogue and bring messages of peace and consensus. The rights of some end when the rights of the other are violated”, they highlighted.
A few days ago, protesters attacked the facilities of the Antapaccay mining company, located in Espinar, and burned vehicles. They also broke into a pump that supplies drinking water to communities.
