Within the framework of the World Economic Forum held in Davos (Switzerland), the Minister of Finance and Public Credit, José Antonio Ocampo, launched the initiative “Towards an inclusive, sustainable and equitable global taxation”.
(Tax justice seeks that those who have more contribute more: Petro).
With this, it pursues the objective that Latin America and the Caribbean unite in the search for greater tax justice and that the countries of the region contribute more effectively to the debate on global tax policy, which, As indicated by the Treasury in a statement, it has not had effective collaboration spaces for the countries of this region and that share a tax tradition.
“What we want is to redistribute the collection on the resources of multinationals that do not pay enough, to allow the countries of the region to have a better chance of financing themselves in this scenario of recovery in the midst of high world inflation,” Ocampo said.
(The reform is a step towards a more equitable tax system: Ocampo).
According to the minister, having an inclusive, sustainable and equitable global tax system will allow developing countries to have resources to invest in post-pandemic recovery, reduce inequality and face high inflation scenarios; as well as decrease the evasion, avoidance and aggressive planning, increasing the collection and mobilization of foreign investment resources in the region.
