After being consulted about the requests in the demonstrations that plague the country, the president Dina Boluarte ensured that citizens who demand the Government a new Constitution are being deceived: it is not the task of the Executive, he indicated. Likewise, he reminded the participants heading to the streets that, with the early elections, they would all leave. “There is no reason to be polarizing the country more. Let’s work in that broad unity that the country needs”, projection.
What did Dina Boluarte say about the demonstrations?
“When the rule of law is sustained in its institutions, badly or well, but democratically, we have to respect that institutionality and one of them is the Congress. (…) When they say ‘close the Congress‘, Congress cannot be magically closed because it would put us outside the law. What is going to happen with the advancement of elections is that this Congress is going to leave, we are all going to leave,” said the president.
He added that “The closure of Congress is a pretext to continue taking roads, to continue blocking roads”and issued a request: “Please, we want to work in peace and the brothers in southern Peru are crying out for no more roadblocks, they want to work to be able to reactivate their economies.”
What did Dina Boluarte say about the constituent assembly?
Regarding the constituent assembly, the current head of state indicated that “It is also a pretext to continue blocking roads, to continue breaking the country’s institutions.”
“An issue of the constituent assembly and new Constitution is not overnight, brothers and sisters from southern Peru, it is a job that the population itself has to do. You who are there, organize yourselves so that you can have that constituent assembly, it does not correspond to Dina Boluartedoes not correspond to Executive. They are being deceived when they say that it is Dina Boluarte who has to resolve the issue of the constituent assembly. That is not true,” she concluded.
