Ministry of Environment will have 19 new vehicles for national deployment

The head of the portfolio, Adrián Peña, explained that this January 13, in addition to conventional vehicles, electric and hybrid cars were incorporated that improve the working conditions of officials. This is the first part of the fleet renewal that will be completed this month. In addition, he announced that Ambiente will open its first regional office in Rocha and will have five more stores in the country.

Peña emphasized that the incorporation of the vehicles implies the consolidation of the Secretary of State, which will continue with the transfer of its headquarters to a new building located on Juncal street, in Montevideo, with six floors for the work of its 600 officials.

He expressed that the fleet will make it possible to comply with the demand for environmental control and evaluation, and attention to complaints, which have increased by 30% since the creation of the portfolio. He explained that the newest vehicle in Ambiente was acquired in 2013, which meant a significant maintenance expense and affected territorial deployment. “There were difficulties in getting to respond to the complaints in a timely manner,” he added.

Peña pointed out that the renewal corresponds to the creation of six regional headquarters in different departments with technical teams for the various demands. He informed that the first office to be inaugurated will be the one located in Rocha, next week.

During the day, the ministry incorporated 18 trucks and an electric car. It is planned, shortly, to add new vehicles including hybrid cars. Presidency
