The White House said today that no visitor records exist at President Biden’s private residence near Wilmington, Delaware, where classified documents were found. House Republicans called for the release of those records.
“Like all presidents through the decades of modern history, his personal residence is a personal one,” the White House said in a statement.
“But upon taking office, President Biden restored the norm and tradition of keeping White House visitor records, including periodicals, after the previous administration removed them,” he added.
A Secret Service spokesperson also told CNN that while the agency provides security for Biden’s home, it does not independently maintain visitor logs.
The news comes after Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.), chairman of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, called on the administration to release visitor logs to the Delaware home as Republicans step up their investigation.
“Given the serious national security implications, the White House must provide the Wilmington residence’s visitor log,” Comer wrote in a letter to Biden’s chief of staff, Ron Klain.
Biden’s legal team has said it has found classified documents dating back to his time as vice president at the Delaware home.
Last week Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Robert Hur as special prosecutor to investigate the matter for the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Republicans have sounded the alarm that Biden’s handling of classified information could have endangered the country’s national security.
Former President Trump, who is also under investigation for his handling of classified information, reacted to the latest development, saying in a social media post: “Maybe they’re smarter than we think!”
“The White House has just announced that there are no RECORDS or information of any kind regarding the visitors to the Wilmington home and the flimsy, unlocked and unsafe, but now very famous garage,” Trump said in the post.
The government has insisted that its officials have fully cooperated with the authorities.
