On January 31, the Faculty of Engineering will begin classes for the new career in Hydrology and Water Resources. There are 35 students who will be trained in this professional field.
The dean of this faculty, Elías López, explained that this degree will focus on training hydrological engineers linked to the planning, calculation and design of civil works such as reservoirs, dams, canals, among others.
López pointed out that this career was born due to the need in the country to have trained personnel for the management of quality, safety and conservation of water.
It is important to note that the course lasts four years divided into academic cycles, in addition to having the option of a Hydrology and Water Resources Engineering Technician, upon completion of the first six cycles.
Those students who wish to enter the career must have basic knowledge in mathematics, physics, chemistry, statistics, biology, geography and for what it is necessary to have a bachelor’s degree in science, swimming skills and have passed the admission tests required the faculty.
It should be noted that those students who complete this degree will have a wide labor market that includes government entities such as the Ministry of Agricultural Development, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Public Works, Ministry of Health, the Panama Canal Authority, the Aquatic Resources, the National Council for Sustainable Development, the National Water Council, among others, as well as private institutions that have projects related to water management.
