President of the Isapres says that the critical situation in the sector would lead to “a crisis in the health sector”

The president of the Association of Isapres, Gonzalo Simonindicated on Sunday that the critical situation of insurers would lead to “a crisis in the health sector.”

“If the situation of the isapres continues to deteriorate and, indeed, there is a change in the system, it could lead to a crisis in the health sector,” Simón said in conversation with National state of TVN.

In turn, he warned that “half of the people who have coverage through Fonasa receive their attention in the private sector” and that “60% of the financing of this large private network comes from the payments made by the Isapres for the attentions to your people”.

Along these lines, he explained that “if that 60% does not exist, the capacity, the size, the technology that the private sector has will not be the same as it is today. And obviously, there will be a supply problem, less access, and that can translate into a health crisis.

ruling of the Supreme

The president of the Isapres also pointed out that “we do not know the path of how the ruling of the Supreme Court is going to be put into practice.”

Let us remember that the ruling of the highest court established that all health and complementary plans must apply the table of factors of the Superintendence of Health, which came into force in 2020.

“After a month and a half (…) we do not know the path of how this ruling is going to be put into practice and the only thing we have known about the Government is that they have been observing the possibility of strengthening the public system, this maintains a level of uncertainty,” Simón pointed out.

“The mandate given by the Supreme Court (to apply the ruling) establishes a period of six months, which ends in May. Therefore, during this period, a good exit formula must be given that allows the Isapres to take over of the problem that they are already dragging, plus the ruling, put it into practice, and allow the coverage to continue to be provided,” he added.
