The leader of bus drivers between Tacna – Arica Javier Cabrera Pinto expressed his concern about the losses registered after three days of demonstrations in the region. According to Cabrera Pinto, more than 100,000 soles a day are lost due to mobilizations and marches.

He explained that in November 2022 it was expected to resume the pre-pandemic figures, but this was not the case. “We give up the months of January and February,” he said before the months of greatest Chilean attendance in Tacna, this because of the 25,000 tourists who arrived, not even 20% would be registered.

In a meeting with other unions in the city such as the AJU Zotac, businessmen from the hotel chain and merchants from Bolognesi Avenue, Cabrera pointed out that the losses would reach up to 1 million dollars a day, this figure according to the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Production from Tacna.

“It is unfortunate that Chileans are not preferring Tacna but La Paz in Bolivia,” Cabrera emphasized in statements to a local radio station.

As a union, Javier Cabrera pointed out that they will request an audience with the regional governor of Tacna Luis Torres Robledo to analyze the tourist scenario in Tacna and thus be able to decide for the well-being of the economic stability of the region.
As recalled, the three land terminals managed by the Provincial Municipality of Tacna were closed in recent days to safeguard the physical integrity of passengers, users and workers of the municipality and of the companies that operate in the terraport.
