Fire in Herrera destroys several businesses and vehicles

Some eight units of the municipality's Fire Department extinguished the fire, which so far has not reported the loss of human life or injuries.

A fire reduced several businesses to ashes and destroyed about three vehicles, in the Las Palmas de Herrera sector, Santo Domingo Oeste.

It started with a mattress factory, spreading to other businesses located in the back of it, according to some witnesses.

Some eight units of the municipality’s Fire Department extinguished the fire, which so far has not reported the loss of human life or injuries.

Alejandro Natera, owner of a mechanical workshop, said that four vehicles with the same number of owners that he repaired were consumed by the flames.

Among the vehicles destroyed were a 2002 Mitsubishi Galant, a 2010 Toyota Corolla car and a Honda Pilot SUV.

The businesses are located on Avenida Duarte Vieja, where dozens of onlookers are around.

The fire started at 5:10 in the afternoon and after 6:00 in the afternoon it was put out by fire units.
