The Confederation of Hydrocarbons and Related Trade Entities of the Argentine Republic (CECHA), which brings together the claims of the service stationsamong other economic actors, could carry out the measure that they proposed in December of last year, which consists of stopping the service if the client intends to pay with a credit card, that is, prohibiting that means of payment.
In the midst of the prohibitive evaluation, CECHA expects a meeting to take place in February where they will decide on the measure that involves the service stations. This initiative, which affects the suppliers according to CECHA, by publishing a statement, It is due to “the damages caused daily due to the accreditation terms and the commissions set by the companies issuing the plastics (credit cards)”.
Thus, the service stations They are within the guidelines of only accepting cash as a means of payment, applications that transfer automatically or cards, but debit cards. Even so, Gabriel Bornoroni, president of CECHA, said that there are possibilities that the prohibitive measure will not be carried out if the problem is resolved as soon as possible.
“In the judicial part, there is already a sentence that gives us the reason. The credit card people appeal, but there’s a ruling in our favor. In addition, in the neighboring countries they are in tune with what we ask for, why do we Argentines have to pay more?
In a matter of purely profit for the service stations and the profits of credit card issuers, Bronoroni explained that the supplier establishments they obtain a gross profit of 8%, after the application of taxes it remains at 2.5% net, and finally, the banks keep 1.5% on the total amount.
It should be noted that in neighboring countries, the commission for credit cards is 0.5%, one percentage point less than in Argentina, and while in our country accreditation is carried out in 15 days, in Brazil or Uruguay there is a maximum period of 48 hours.
How long will it be possible to pay with credit cards?
For now, CECHA maintains its decision to stop charging its customers by credit card as of February 1 due to deficiencies in the collection system, which implies late accreditation and high commissions from plastic issuers.
The problem with respect to the first of the factors mentioned, the period of accreditation of the money, arises not only due to the long period, but also due to the high inflation that exists in our country, where in just ten or fifteen days, prices could have grown 1.7% with the current monthly registered inflation.
