In December, 85.1% of the energy was generated with hydroelectric plants

According to the most recent report from XM, operator of the Colombian electricity market, during the last month of 2022 85.1% of the country’s energy was generated through hydroelectric plants. For this month, the total energy generated was 6,618.8 gigawatt hours (GWh).

This was achieved thanks to the significant aggregate levels of water in the country’s reservoirs. According to the report, for December this level reached 79%, slightly lower than that of December (87.1%)but 11.2 percentage points above the data for December 2021.

By regions, the Caribbean reservoirs were the ones with the highest level because they reached 94.6% of their maximum; They are followed by Antioquia with 88.3%, Oriente with 75.8%, Center with 72.2% and Valle with 69.9%.

Although there was a decrease of 8.1 points compared to the previous month, it is a normal decrease for the summer season which will last until March 2023 and for which no risks are foreseen in the attention of the demand“, explained Carlos Andrés Cano, manager (e) of the National Dispatch Center.
